Rehabilitation
MPFS is the best Rehabilitation Centre for footballers.
In spite of technological advances in most areas of the game, serious injuries remain a constant feature of the professional football. With soft tissue knee, hip and lower extremity injuries predominating, the key factor is the speed with which a player can be safely and fully returned to match fitness. Providing stimulating and well co-ordinated long-term treatment for clients at club level is, therefore, the main challenge for the sports medicine team.
Whilst most players make a complete recovery from injuries sustained whilst playing, physiotherapists and their staff often find their time and resources stretched to the limit. The repetitive nature of remedial activity, generally undertaken in the same training location, plus the enforced isolation of injured players from their team-mates can negatively impact the rate of physical improvement. Players’ recovery from training and injury occurs on individualised time scales dependent upon the state of mind and interest in the programme provided. Ideally, many physiotherapists and fitness coaches would like to be able to send players away to a dedicated facility for their return to match fitness work but staffing and time constraints make such trips difficult to manage.
MPFS has a tried and tested track record of hosting elite club and international squads during pre- and mid-season breaks with its superb pitches and idyllic location situated close to beach, forest and mountains. Recently, it has also started to encourage visits from individual players with their club fitness coaches to provide the perfect venue for in-season conditioning and fitness development. One of those coaches is now on the staff at MPFS with the title of Rehabilitation Co-ordinator and is charged with raising awareness of the new programme.
Our staff have over 15 years experience as a fitness coach and sports scientist in the English Premier League and are well placed to jointly plan work types and intensities with the host physiotherapist should a club require that service. Alternatively we would simply coordinate the bookings with facility, equipment and recovery provision should staff from the host club wish to accompany their players.
Nicky Butt 2006:
Well suited for physiotherapists who would like to send players recovering from long term injury, or needing time to sharpen up, away from the training ground for a supervised change of scenery to boost their recovery / improvement rates.
